Indie Dev Spotlight

Luna Dark Game Studio

In our first ANDi’s Indie Dev spotlight, we’ve caught up with Luna Dark Game Studio. A one man indie studio hailing from Trikala in Greece. Founded in early 2016, Luna Darks’ Joe Lio has 2+ years experience with Unity Engine having previously worked on S.Q.R The Square Game (available on Android). Joe is a fan of old Amstrad and Amiga games, and generally any old-school arcade game he can get his hands on.

Luna Dark recently released their first game, Rolling Orange. Rolling Orange is a rolling ball arcade game for Android. The Orange is rolling, you can’t stop it, all you can do is try and control where the Orange goes steering it safely to the end of level. Avoid obstacles and enemies, pass through rings and collect stars to get the highest score possible and unlock new levels. Roll your Orange through 3 different and challenging chapters in this easy to learn but hard to master arcade classic. Luna Dark is a great example of indie dev, working on a number of new highly addicting & challenging arcade classics for Android, iOS and PC.

Q&A with Joe Lio

How long have you been developing games?

For about two years now, maybe slightly longer.

How did you get started making indie games?

I’ve always loved playing games, so I decided to get my hands dirty and to try and make some.

What are you currently working on?

It’s a new game I have been thinking about for a while now.

What platform(s) will this be released for?

Android initially with iOS as a potential release a little further down the line.

Can you tell us more about it, genre, story, features etc?

It’s a rally racing game. I’m still building features into the game, you can track my progress on Twitter.

How long has this been in development for?

A little over a month. As it’s just me, it can take time as I need to fit development around everyday life.

What do you think are the biggest challenges today facing the mobile gaming sector?

The sheer number of games in the app stores. You have to search deep to find the hidden gems.  [Editors Note: Hey! Have you heard about our app?!!]

What’s the future looking like for you after this project, are their games waiting to be started?

Absolutely. I have a PC title planned for 2017. It will be a horror game, but I will release details once I have finished this current project.
