Day 63 – Modern Combat 5 Blackout

Modern Combat 5 Blackout is first-person shooter which opens with an explosive plot tease, showing a private corporation as the possible culprit behind a terrorist attack. This heavy focus on campaign provides depth to the game, and perfectly captures the heart of other shooters like Call of Duty. If you’re a fan of console first person shooter (FPS) games, this is quite possibly the best thing like it available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

As well as a long story mode, the game also benefits massively from having multiplayer modes which provide the player with a reason to play on, to try and earn new guns and armour. Considering the good graphics and large amount of content this game presents, it takes up little space on my phone, coming in at under a gigabyte in size. There was a long loading time upon the first setup but this is understandable once you are in the game and see just how much it contains.

The controls are simple and provide the player with many different methods of taking on enemies. Along with the fighting through the map, there are also occasional cutscenes. While most games would use cutscenes as a break for the player and to add to the narrative, players often skip them to get back to the combat. MC5 wants its players to pay attention to the story, so gives them a role within the cutscenes and provides them with prompts to keep them on their toes.

Overall I feel that this game is perfect for somebody looking for a portable FPS with many similarities to popular shooters, and with its eSport presence it has serious depth and replay-ability.
