Day 83 – Choices Stories You Play

One choice can change everything! Fall in love, solve crimes, or embark on epic fantasy adventures in immersive visual stories where YOU control what happens next! Welcome to Hartfeld University! You’ll make friends for life, and maybe even find true love. Will you date bookish James, party girl Kaitlyn, football hero Chris… or all three at once? Choices Stories You Play leaves destiny in your hands.

The sort of cringe, romance-based games like this are ones that I have always seen as a load of rubbish and vowed never to play. I finally bit the bullet and decided to leap right in. Besides, I’m sure I’d be great at playing a female trying to impress a ‘freshman’ at my school. Just like real life, right?

Sure I did okay, and it was kinda fun, but I felt weirded out and stopped playing after one chapter (I also found out I would have to pay for more chapters). The game itself really is less of a game and more of a story driven by, funnily enough, your choices. Much like Telltale Games, the stories can become captivating especially when you have invested so much into the characters in a way that is impossible with regular narratives. However, I don’t think I am the intended audience for a game like this, which did make it a bit boring for me to play.

In terms of the game’s inner workings, things are surprisingly varied between dialogue, outfit choices, and actions. The graphics have a low limit for how good they can possibly be with a  game like this, however it is really well done here with a cartoony but realistic style.
